(June 3) - A newly engaged couple who had traveled to Brazil to tell family members of their marriage plans died together on Air France Flight 447.
Julia Schmidt, 27, and Alex Crolow, 26, are believed to have been aboard the ill-fated jet, which was en route from Rio de Janeiro to Paris when it went down Monday in the Atlantic, Houston resident Brian Buzby told ABC affiliate KTRK-TV.

Buzby said he met Schmidt, a native Brazilian, while they were attending Bucerius Law School in Germany.
"We just had a great friendship right off the beginning," said Buzby.
The two became friends with fellow student Crolow, and Schmidt quickly fell for the German.

"She was like, 'Oh my gosh, that's him, that's him,'" Buzby said.
He said the couple, both aspiring international lawyers, had flown to Brazil to tell Schmidt's family of their engagement.

"This was Alex taking her back to tell her mom they were going to get married, something her mom had always wanted for her," Buzby said.
The couple planned to go next to Germany, where they would tell Crolow's family about their engagement. But they never made it.
"I just hope that they were not suffering, and at least they were together, because I would have hated for one of them to go through it alone," said Buzby.
